Solar powered streetlights have been installed in Shaviyani Atoll Maaungoodhoo through the ‘BML Community Fund’.
BML said the project, which was successfully implemented by the local NGO, Society for Maaungoodhoo Youth Linkage, saw the installation of 25 streetlights along the main roads of the island.
Commenting on the project, Mohamed Zahir from the local NGO said there were no streetlights in the area prior to this project.
He said with the installation of solar powered streetlights, the island could be a safe space for the community and make a difference to the environment by reducing the dependence on non-renewable energy.
BML’s Community Fund is a program to empower NGOs to contribute to their communities through sustainable projects.
