Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said on Saturday that no previous administration has given as much priority to small businesses as President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s government.
He made the remarks during the launch of Tharujamaanaa Eku, a new podcast hosted by Government Spokesperson Heena Waleed. Saeed, who also served as Economic Minister during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration, appeared as the first guest.

Speaking on the podcast, Saeed highlighted the President’s meeting with small business owners on December 17, where concerns were raised about challenges involving ministries, government agencies, independent institutions, state‑owned companies and, in some cases, local councils.
Saeed said the President’s Office has since instructed relevant authorities to streamline processes and provide the easiest possible pathways for businesses.
“I don’t believe I’ve ever seen such result‑oriented and productive work from a president before, and now we are seeing the results,” he said.

He also noted the government’s efforts to introduce concessions for small businesses. The Finance Ministry has previously stated that it is working to provide tax concessions, and discussions are ongoing with MIRA.
“These matters are being discussed with MIRA, and the Finance Ministry has said it will implement the concessions very soon. So let’s wait, hopefully arrangements will be made soon,” Saeed said.
The government has awarded many projects to state‑owned companies this year as part of its spending cuts, a move that some private businesses say has reduced their access to contracts and affected their income.
The state also owes billions of rufiyaa to private businesses. Although the President previously announced two repayment dates last year, the payments have not yet been made. He has since said the government will try to settle the outstanding amounts before next Ramadan.
Saeed says no previous president has prioritised small businesses as strongly as President Muizzu
