National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has revealed more than 14,000 People With Disabilities (PWDs) received financial assistance in December.
Data from NSPA shows that a total of USD 3.4 million was disbursed to 14,816 people with disabilities during the month. As of December, 15,059 people were registered with the agency. Of those registered, 8,736 were male and 6,323 were female.
According to the disability registry, the categories of registered persons are as follows:
Multiple disabilities: 3,396 people
Neurological disability: 1,871 people
Mental disability: 2,116 people
Hearing and speech disabilities: 1,791 people
Visual impairment: 1,018 people
Autism: 588 people
Learning disabilities: 56 people
Physical disability: 4,223 people
An allowance has been paid to people with disabilities since 2011. In 2023, the allowance was increased to USD 194.
