Salim-Sulaiman duo to perform in New Year Show

Maldivian Tourism Minister Ahmed Adheeb himself went to Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) to welcome the two artists into the country, and has confirmed that the two artists would be performing at the Show. The Show was supposed to center around Jamaican artist Sean Paul, who had to bow out at the last minute due to security threats after a YouTube video was released threatening the artist with death if he came to perform in the Show. The Show had created some controversy within Maldivian society with some voicing against celebrating ‘western holidays’ such a New Year, calling it ‘un-Islamic’. The entrance-free event is expected to gather a huge turnout. Security in and around Galolhu National Stadium is to be looked after Maldivian National Defense Force (MNDF) and police; with authorities vowing to keep security measures in top shape in line of the threatening video – though the government has since ruled it to be nothing more than a ‘local hoax’. In addition to the two Indian musicians, the show will also feature some young local artists and will showcase fire dances and laser shows. Fireworks are to erupt over the capital, Male’ as the clock strikes 12 to celebrate the New Year, and the record-breaking tourist arrivals to the country are to be revealed.
