Nasheed took deliberate fall: police
Speaking in a press conference Monday night, Superintendent of Police Hamdhoon Rasheed said that President Nasheed took a deliberate fall as police attempted to escort him into Criminal Court and that they therefore had to drag him inside as he refused to go in. “At that time, we were trying to escort him into court even if we had to carry him. Police faced some hindrances because of some media personnel. But we safely got him inside the court,” said Hamdhoon. Police also denied allegation that President Nasheed’s right arm and fingers had been broken in the incident, saying that he had been checked up on police medical doctors and that he would be provided with addition medical attention if need be. Police said they were reviewing video footage of the incident and would take measures against President Nasheed if he is seen to have caused deliberate harm to any police officer. Police have been ordered to keep President Nasheed in custody until end of trial for terrorism charges he faces for wrongful detention of Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdulla Mohamed during his term as president – three years ago.
