MDP sends proposal to JP, asks to determine a common candidate before party congress

Main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has appealed on counterpart Jumhooree Party to settle the matter of it’s presidential candidate and inform the party before it’s national congress commences.
While months have passed since the joint opposition has been claiming that they will announce a common candidate, the deadline for submitting bids for candidacy is drawing near and the joint opposition is yet to reach a decision on whom their common candidate will be.
MDP asked JP to decide and let the party know before the MDP congress takes place, in a letter addressed to JP Deputy Leader Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan.
MDP wrote that they had discussed in various matters including the comprising of a government, filling parliament seats as well as about the one common candidate to be released from the joint opposition.
MDP had proposed their suggestions to Jumhooree Party and requested the party to respond to them before MDP hosts it’s congress.
Although it is yet unclear on what the proposals were, RaajjeMV understands that the biggest issue is about determining a common candidate.
According to information received by the station, Jumhooree Party had responded to MDP’s proposal today itself, however, both parties are yet to reveal what the response was.
