High Court has accepted the appeal for Criminal Court’s 15 day remand order on Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor.
After taken in by security forces in relation to the explosion aboard presidential launch “Finifenma”، Vice President Adeeb was remanded for 15 days on the 25th of this month. VP’s remand hearing was carried out in Dhoonidhoo via video conferencing.
According to the new rules of appeal assigned by a circular released by Supreme Court، if an appeal needs to be filed in High Court for an order given by a low level court، the appeal should be filed to the court which issued the order. Then that court will have to send all documents of the case to High Court within a time period of 7 days.
Informing to “Vaguthu”، a member of VP Adeeb’s legal team، Al-Ustad Hussain Shameem said that High Court accepted VP’s appeal case some time today and hopes that High Court will look into this case as soon as possible.
“VP has been detained in such a way that he cannot perform the duties vested in him by the power of the constitution. Complaint is made saying that detaining him like that is wrong. So hope is that High Court will take into consideration the delicate condition of the country and schedule a hearing as soon as possible، maybe even Saturday”، said Shameem.
While VP has been remanded for 15 days، no confidence motion against him has been submitted to the People’s Majlis، the notice of which has also been sent to him.
Whereas the Majlis has sent the notice to Adeeb according to the constitution، Adeeb will get a 14 day time period to prepare for answering.
While VP Adeeb has been arrested on the allegation of conspiring to assassinate President Yameen in the presidential speedboat blast، majority leader of People’s Majlis، Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik said last night that Adeeb’s no confidence motion will be passed before the Republic Day.
Republic Day is the 11th of November. Hence، the 14 day period for preparation of answering will end and Majlis can agenda the no confidence motion at the soonest also on the 10th of November.
