Government has granted permission for jailed former President Mohamed Nasheed to seek surgery for his spine from UK.
Speaking to Miadhu, Home Minister Umar Naseer confirmed the Government’s decision, stating the Government had complied with the request issued by Nasheed. He added that Nasheed will have to complete the preliminary procedures prior to the arrangements for travel.
“His family will have to finalize details such as the hospital, time for the surgery and recovery. Once they complete such details, arrangements will be made for his departure,” he said.
Minister Umar said if Nasheed fails to return back to the Maldives after treatment, the state will file charges against Nasheed on fleeing from justice.
The Government had refused treatment for former Defense Minister Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim and former MP for Dhiggaru Constituency Ahmed Nazim from Singapore.
