Adhalath Party’s president, Sheikh Imran’s appeal case has been scheduled for tomorrow by the High Court.
Sheikh Imran was convicted of terrorism charges and was sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Criminal Court. The court found that while delivering a speech during the May Day Protests in 2015, Imran encouraged acts of terrorism.
Imran’s lawyer and Adhalath Party’s Vice President Sheikh Ali Zahir also confirmed that a hearing has been scheduled for tomorrow. Speaking to Miadhu News, Ali Zahir said that he is worried that the case is being delayed and he said that he do not think that a verdict will be reached tomorrow since the judges in the high court bench has been changed.
The bench in Imran’s case was changed after Judge Shujaau Usman was changed to the southern branch of the High Court. Even though Imran was sentenced to jail, Imran is on a house arrest since mid-2016, due to some ongoing renovation works in the jail.
