A record number of private jets landed at Velana International Airport in 2018.
Hassan Areef, associate MD of Maldives Airports Company (MACL), said that more than 80 private jets landed at the main airport in the past five days alone.
Compared to that, only 55 private jets landed at the airport from December 25 to 31 in 2017.
The airport experienced the greatest number of plane landings in 2018 as well.
MACL stated that the airport on December 23 this year received a record 55 flight landings while domestic Air Traffic Movements (ATM) rose to 102 and seaplane ATMs rose to 517, which are the highest its ever been since the airport was opened 52 years ago.
On that day, the airport served 17,723 foreign passengers and 4,269 domestic passengers.
Areef said that MACL prepared well for the season and that, except for issues regarding infrastructure, it did not face any problems.
