Covid-19: Kadhdhoo’s case count rises to 59 with 24 more cases

An additional 24 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in Kadhdhoo island of Laamu atoll.
While the Health Protection Agency (HPA) had previously confirmed 35 cases from the island, all are military officers that recently traveled there for training purposes.
26 of the 35 cases were confirmed last Saturday, and the remaining nine the next day. They were tested after completing home quarantine, as required after traveling from the capital.
The 24 individuals that tested positive on Thursday were identified as contacts of the previous cases.
While 93 officers traveled to Kadhdhoo for training, a total of 59 have tested positive for the virus now.
Among the 86 new Covid-19 cases reported on Thursday, 29 are from residential islands.
There are a total of 146 active cases in islands, out of 1,112; most of the Covid-19 cases have been detected from the capital region.
The 146 cases include 82 locals and 64 foreigners.
Earlier this week, some islands in the north were placed under monitoring after an officer active in a special operation in the region tested positive for Covid-19. The measures have since been lifted, following contact tracing.
