Highlighting the role of strong social security systems in shielding society from external shocks, economic risks, and climate challenges, President Muizzu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to a people-centric governance approach. He emphasized the need for decentralized solutions rooted in traditional knowledge and wisdom, alongside the digital transformation of society to achieve smart and sustainable development through modern technology.
The President reiterated his dedication to justice, equality, and fairness, reaffirming his commitment to working toward a just and environmentally sustainable world. He noted that this year's International Social Justice Day theme, "Strengthening a Just Transition for a Sustainable Future," aligns with both national priorities and international aspirations of small island developing states like the Maldives. He also highlighted how this theme addresses the challenges of balancing rapid economic growth with environmental sustainability.
As a member of the Global Coalition for Social Justice since July 2024, the Maldives aims to enhance social resilience and promote social justice through increased collaboration and consultative policy-making. Discussing the country’s development trajectory and anticipated economic reforms, President Muizzu stated that his administration remains focused on improving citizens' lives while addressing the climate vulnerabilities of the islands. He added that the Rasmale project would become the country’s first eco-city, setting a new standard for sustainable housing and economic empowerment.
The President also highlighted the Maldives Energy Roadmap 2024-2033, emphasizing the importance of making the transition to a low-carbon economy an inclusive and beneficial process for all. He stated that economic, social, educational, labor, and environmental policies are being developed with an inclusive mindset to ensure gender equality and broader social participation. Additionally, he stressed the need to create opportunities for women, persons with disabilities, youth, and the elderly.
Concluding his message, President Muizzu stated that securing a just future requires collective effort. He noted that by embracing the traditional spirit of community and learning from past experiences, the nation could build a brighter, more equitable future.
