President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that MVR 3 billion will be allocated for new development projects in the proposed 2026 state budget, with at least MVR 500 million each dedicated to education and healthcare initiatives.
Speaking at a public meeting in Shaviyani Funadhoo on Wednesday evening, the President said the budget reflects the government’s commitment to prioritizing essential services. “The government must act on what the people need most. When we do that, we serve in the most desirable and complete way,” he said.
The President revealed that the budget will include inclusive education systems, with support for students with disabilities and inclusive classrooms in all schools. Plans also include the construction of a vocational school to expand skill-based learning.
On healthcare, President Muizzu criticized past administrations for neglecting preventive care and forcing citizens to seek treatment abroad. He pledged that preventive healthcare will be a key focus in the upcoming budget.

Housing development will also be scaled up, and the budget will reflect unprecedented priority for education and health, he said.
Addressing economic concerns, the President stated that the government is successfully reviving the economy and has no concerns about debt repayment in 2026. “We have no worries. Everything is in order according to our plan,” he said.
He also assured local businesses that outstanding payments owed by the previous administration will be honored, alongside current obligations.
