President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed confidence in the Government’s ability to advance agricultural development and strengthen food security.
In a post on his official X account commemorating Farmers’ Day, the President extended warm greetings to farmers and all those working diligently to advance the agricultural sector, recognising their vital contribution to building a resilient and self-sustaining Maldives.
He noted that the agricultural achievements of past generations stand as enduring testimony to the fertility and productivity of Maldivian soil, capable of yielding a rich variety of fruits, vegetables, and essential crops. In this context, the President expressed his aspiration to further enhance the nation’s agricultural sector and ensure long-term food stability.
First Lady Sajida Mohamed also conveyed her greetings via her official X account, underscoring the importance of cultivating a safe and sustainable agricultural system. She commended the unwavering dedication of farmers and all individuals contributing to the sector’s continued growth.
Ensuring food security remains a key strategic priority for the Government, with a firm commitment to cultivating sufficient domestic produce to meet the nutritional needs of the Maldivian population. To this end, the Government is prioritising islands engaged in agricultural activity, promoting investment, strengthening sector management, and fostering economic diversification to broaden the national economic base.
Farmers’ Day was first officially observed in the Maldives in 2009.
