The Boziyaaraith Beach, developed by the Kulhudhuffushi City Council, was officially opened tonight.
Boziyaaraith, located on the southwestern tip of Kulhudhuffushi, has traditionally been a popular area designated for swimming.
Although the general public and the state have attempted to develop this area at various times, it had previously remained without the necessary services and facilities required by the community.
Consequently, the Kulhudhuffushi City Council designed a project based on public consultation. In March 2025, the council awarded a 3.3 million MVR contract to Benzi Trading Private Limited for the protection of the Boziyaaraith area and the development of the swimming zone.
Subsequently, in May 2025, a further contract worth 3.7 million MVR was awarded to PlusB for the continued development of the Boziyaaraith area.
The site has been developed as a lush, pleasant space offering a wide range of services.
The facilities include a children’s play area, two toilets, a feeding room, and a ramp for persons with disabilities to access the sea. It also features a watch hut, a barbecue area, four family huts, and a dedicated deck for hosting events. Additionally, the area is equipped with two shower areas, two light posts for illumination, garden lights, benches, and swings, alongside coastal protection measures for the beach.
The name “Boziyaaraith” (Head Tomb) originates from an incident in the 1950s when a human head washed ashore in the area. The head was buried there and a tomb was constructed, leading to the location being known by this name ever since.
