Coordinator of All-Party Talks, Ahmed Mujtaba, has said that the talks would resume tonight, after a long pause.
All-Party Talks, initiated by President Dr. Waheed after the incidents of February 7th and aftermath, were aimed at finding an amicable solution agreeable to all political parties in the Maldives, in order to cool down political tension and turmoil in the country. However, the talks were interrupted indefinitely, when former President Mohamed Nasheed’s Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) showed “signs of ill will, lack of commitment, and disregard of the opinions of others”.
When parliamentarians of MDP tried to block President Waheed from delivering his State-of-the-Nation Address on 1st March, major parties in the ruling Alliance withdrew from the Talks.
Mujtaba said that all the parties that initially participated in the Talks would sit down in tonight’s session, and that the agenda of the Talks had not been modified.
“We will just continue in accordance with the previously set agenda”, said Mujtaba.
The Talks are being resumed after a series of informal meetings and discussions among political parties.
