The case of the Vice President of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) Ahmed Tholhath calling the police “terrorists” has been presented to the parliament’s committee for independent institutions.
According to Police Media, Tholhath insulted the police calling them “terrorists” on the speedboat back to Male’ after visiting the former president Mohamed Nasheed who is in police custody under a court order.
Maldives Police Service says they don’t believe such behavior is acceptable from such a high ranking official. Hence, the case has been presented to the parliament’s committee for independent institutions.
HRCM has issued a press release condemning police actions while bringing the former president Mohamed Nasheed, who is charged with terrorism for the unlawful arrest of the Chief Judge of the Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed, saying the police actions on that day were cruel.
Police says HRCM issued the press release without a proper investigation.
