Ruling PNC Emerges as Largest Political Party in the Maldives

The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has emerged as the political party with the largest membership, according to statistics released by the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM).
As of the end of 2024, ECM reported a total of 173,747 individuals were registered with political parties in the Maldives. Of these, 68,968 members were registered with PNC, making it the party with the largest membership.
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), which previously held the top position, now ranks second with 43,755 members. According to ECM, in addition to PNC and MDP, only two other parties have membership exceeds 10,000 members. They are the Jumhooree Party (JP), with 13,826 members and PNC’s sister party, the Progressive Party Maldives (PPM), with 12,174 members as of the end of 2024.
Adhaalath Party (AP): 9,049 members
Maldives Development Alliance (MDA): 9,210 members
Maldives National Party (MNP): 6,050 members
The Democrats: 3,667 members
Maldives Third-Way Democrats (MTD): 2,359 members
People’s National Front (PNF): 2,822 members
In addition, Maldives Reform Movement (MRM), which is due to be dissolved, had a membership of 1,867 members.
The ECM has also published the party membership registries on its website and opened them for public complaints. The deadline to submit complaints is by 3:00 pm of Monday, 10 February. Complaints may be submitted via the commission’s main online portal, its complaints portal, or in person at the ECM’s main office on weekdays from 08:30 am to 3:00 pm.
