India steals second rank from China, 1.5 Mln arrivals

While tourist arrivals to the Maldives has exceeded 1.5 million arrivals by October 28, India has dethroned China to become the second strongest market.
Ministry of Tourism reveals the total tourist arrivals by the review date reached 1,505,366 which is a 13.6% annual increment, while the arrival count is a little below 400,000 short of hitting the annual arrival target of 1.9 million.
In 2022, tourist arrivals for the same year-to-date period reached 1,327,962.
Russia continues to dominate the top 10 tourist markets with 172,472 arrivals so far in 2023. However, China, which was second to Russia a few weeks back have been pushed to third spot by India with an annual arrival total of 163,513 so far.
Though slipped to third spot, China is closely behind India with 163,036 arrivals so far this year. The United Kingdom is fourth ranked with 121,166 arrivals and Germany is in fifth spot with 105,862.
The bottom five markets include; Italy (89,725), USA (58,695), France (40,500), Spain (32,286), and Switzerland (29,255).
