Maumoon faction of the ruling party, PPM has raised concerns about how PPM became the largest political party in the country after a large number of members from the opposition MDP was omitted from the political party registry.
The members omitted on the directory are members that did not put their fingerprint on the political party membership forms. They did not put on their fingerprints because it was not required when the political parties for originally formed.
A press release issued by the Maumoon faction on behalf of PPM said that even if they got to be the party with most members when they got the title when a large number of members were removed from opposition parties without giving sufficient time to put the fingerprints, PPM does not want to get ahead by causing a great lost to other political parties.
And that PPM believes in getting ahead by competing with other political parties in a free environment.
PPM said that even if they have the title of the largest political party in the country, they condemn the actions of the Elections Commission.
In the statement, PPM called to the Elections Commission to establish a political environment where all parties can compete freely.
The statement by the Maumoon faction repeatedly stated that sufficient time was not given to add the fingerprints to the membership forms and raised concerns that the Elections Commission did not notify the members that were removed from the party directory.
