Reverting to atoll ministry system is better than a namesake decentralized system- Hussein Mohamed

Mathiveri constituency MP, Hussein Mohamed has said that reverting to atoll ministry system is better than having a name sake decentralized system.
Speaking at the Peoples’ Majlis, Hussein Mohamed said that it is now doubtful whether the councils can manage the islands and atolls as was done by Island chiefs and atoll chiefs.
He said that the councils are not given the adequate authority. He said that now the councils will have to make a request from the government for everything.
“We have to see the administrative expenses. After the establishment of the decentralized system how was it run?” he asked.
“If are to believe the reality, if we are brave enough to speak justice, today the islands do not get the assistance that they got during the time of island and brothers in the language.
“At that time there was a ministry as a parent organization. It is the atoll ministry. The atoll chief will be managing the issues of the atoll. And then there will be an island chief. This new system does not provide any assistance that the people requires,” he said.
MP Mohamed Hussein said that it will be better to amend the law and go back to the atoll ministry.
“If it is just for namesake. Then there is no meaning in the decentralized system,” he said.
