Minister Dunya has called for reforms in UN, citing that the organization had achieved much in the 70 year history.
She made the statement speaking in the UN General Assembly Saturday night.
Minister Dunya said that UN had failed to prevent civil conflicts, human rights breaches, gender equality breaches and finding solutions for climate change issues. However, she noted that UN still was the best platform to resolve the issues facing the world.
She noted that issues like hunger and poverty were as equally important as guns and violence. She urged the international community to approach all problems from all angles to find a proper solution.
Minister Dunya said that Maldives had always assisted and championed issues facing the international community, extremely successfully. She also said that Maldives was more than capable of handling the issues and was extremely proud of the successes.
