According to the president’s spokesperson Mr. Ibrahim Muaz Ali, the “Youth Groups” mentioned in the President’s speech were actually meant for the local youth associations that promote youth related activities.
In the President’s speech addressing the nation regarding the assassination attempt, he said that previously he was funding different activities of youth groups through Mr. Adeeb, and that he needed to plan ways to further continue the funding.
In a tweet made from his official account on Monday, Mr. Spokesperson cleared the statement by the president saying that the “Youth Groups” mentioned in the president’s speech were actually meant for the different youth associations promoting sports and other youth related activities.
Additionally, in the tweet, he mentioned that the creation of a responsible generation of youth was one of the most important workthe president has planned. Furthermore, he said that he was saddened since some have misinterpreted the president’s statement negatively.
The opposition as well as several people on social media accused that the “Youth Groups” werethe local gansgters, and that the president was openly declaring his corruption by funding them. This statement by the Spokesperson was in response to these allegations and to make the president’s statement more clear to the general public.
