Former President Mohamed Nasheed has departed for UK for his spinal surgery.
He is scheduled to transit in Sri Lanka until 12.35 pm tomorrow prior to his departure to UK.
His lawyers Hisaan Hussain and Hassan Latheef are accompanying him on the trip.
Maldives Correctional Services reported that Nasheed was travelling on his official passport.
Nasheed’s brother Ibrahim Nashid had signed the surety guaranteeing his return. The surety states that if the convict flees while aboard, the guarantor will take all the responsibility for the convict.
Had Nasheed signed the surety yesterday, he would have been able to leave yesterday as planned.
