Home Minister Umar Naseer has stated that Former President Nasheed will be provided with fancy amenities such as TV، AC and VCD Player in the jail while he will be serving the 13 years of imprisonment issued on him due to proven terrorism charges.
The statement was made in a tweet made by Umar Naseer. He has stated that Nasheed will be serving the sentence in a 264 ft. jail apartment comprising of one room and a sitting room.
He has further stated that the apartment will be fully furnished including AC، TV، VCD Player. He has also indicated that the Jail will comprise of a garden which is 1087 ft wide.
A tweet made previously by Umar stated that the protection of Nasheed is assured in the jail and he will be treated with respect in the jail.
Umar Naseer had stated previously that a special unit will be built in Maafushi for Nasheed to serve the 13 years of sentence issued on him.
The presiding bench of 3 judges took the decision of 13 years of Jail due to the charges pressed against Nasheed for illegally detaining and isolating the chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Gaazee، was proven in relation to the documentary evidence and letters presented against Nasheed.
The lawyers’ team of Nasheed had stated that once they have received the summary of how the trial was concluded، they will appeal in the high court.
Nasheed has been proven guilty under Article 2(b) of the Terrorism Penal Code and has been sentenced under Article 6(b) of the same Code.
