Former Commissioner of Police (retired) Abdulla Riyaz has said that he is ready to testify in court and the Peoples’ Majlis regarding the murder case of Dr. Afrashim Ali if the National Security Committee seeks information regarding the case.
Riyaz made this remark after he was summoned to the Police regarding an ongoing investigation. He said that no testimony was taken by the Police last night although he was told that he was summoned to testify.
However, he was asked regarding whatever information he knew regarding the case of the murder of Dr. Afrashim and the arson of Rajjetv.
He said that whatever information he has regarding the two cases are already recorded in the Police and there is nothing more to say.
He said that if he answered the questions of Police it would have been a compromise of the information he received while he was the Commissioner of Police. He said that he would not do it but if he has to reveal any information in a court of law or at the Peoples’ Majlis he will reveal whatever he knew regarding the two cases.
Riyaz said that his concern is regarding the case and not personalities and he will continue proclaiming the truth for the sake of the nation always.
He said that although he was previously in responsible posts of the government now he is the Parliamentary Group’s Deputy leader of the Jumhooree Party and Kinbidhoo constituency MP so he will not talk politics.
“I am appointed and elected by the people therefore I will be concerned regarding the concerns of the people and I will speak regarding those matters,” he said.
