Amnesty International has been notified about the unlawful arrest of Qasim Ibrahim and the government’s intimidation of Qasim Ibrahim through various means.
Amnesty International was notified about the issue by the Deputy Leader of JP, Ameen Ibrahim who is residing in the UK. Ameen said that he gave information about Qasim’s arrest and also how the government has been treating other political leaders as well.
“In addition to political leaders, I discussed about Colonel Nazim and Mahloof” said Ameen. In addition, he said that he spoke about the government’s influence on the parliament and the intimidation faced by parliament members and journalists.
Ameen said that, Amnesty International told him that they are monitoring the situation in Maldives closely and that they will do whatever they can to assist.
