Transitional Justice Office to review 449 cases from the 487 cases filed with them

The Ombudsperson’s Office for Transitional Justice (OTJ) has announced their decision to review 449 cases from the 487 cases filed with them.
In a statement released by OTJ – they noted that 487 cases were submitted to them between June 13 to September 13. The 487 cases are classified as follows;
172 cases on right to housing
156 cases on right to work
44 cases on freedom from unlawful arrest
26 cases on no degrading treatment or torture
12 cases on the right to acquire and hold property
9 cases on right to fair administrative action and economic and social rights
7 cases on right of pension
6 cases on responsibilities and duties, right to education and freedom of assembly
10 cases related to other issues
Out of the 487 cases – OTJ decided to proceed with the investigation of 449 cases.
From the cases that have been decided not be reviewed – 26 were rejected. Meanwhile, one case has been dismissed citing that it is already under investigation by a presidential commission. Six cases have been sent for more information and five cases were recommended to be resubmitted later once the court proceedings of these cases are over.
