Government has stated that the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) established ties with Israel and those who established ties with them should not be worried or concerned with the Maldives-China relationship.
In a press conference held at the President’s Office by the Economic Committee, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said that the government is expanding the Maldives- China relationship in various developmental projects because China is the biggest economy in the world.
The Minister said that China submits proposals the most even for the projects opened for European countries. He said that Chinese companies have submitted their proposals the most in the projects opened in Maldives.
“The government is currently working on mega projects. Therefore the question is should we continue with those who submit their proposals or should we wait until a certain people submit their proposals? The government is trying to bring development and progress to the nation and the citizenry,” he said.
Mohamed Saeed said that Maldives has no problems with other countries regardless of the ties with China.
“Two delegations from America have held discussions with the government to work with Maldives. European Tour Operators are promoting the tourism industry of Maldives. Countries of European Union wants to by Maldive fish,” he said.
Mohamed Saeed said that China has the largest tourist market for Maldives and 40 percent of the tourists who visited Maldives this year are from China.
