Former President Mohamed Nasheed، who has been sentenced to prison on terror charges of abducting criminal court chief justice Abdulla ‘Gaazee’ Mohamed in 2012، should be released، says Vilufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed.
Speaking during the debate on the Amendment to Clemency Act proposed by Mahibadhoo MP Ahmed Thoriq، Riyaz said Nasheed is not a person to be locked up forever.
Riyaz made the statement while many are expressing concerns that the Amendment was proposed to release Nasheed.
Stating that Nasheed should also obey the rules of law، Riyaz highlighted that he should not be jailed or isolated from the rest of the community.
Riyaz further said that ruling coalition seek to see Nasheed free.
In addition، Vilufushi MP said as the leader of the opposition، Nasheed should make constructively criticize the government، rather than attempting to overthrow it.
