Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said that Maldives was the biggest success in the tourism sector due to the nation’s natural beauty and the emphasis placed on training employees required for the sector.
He made the statement speaking in the ceremony held to handover scholarships of the human resource development program of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), which trains existing staff and trains apprentices for various positions in the company. The ceremony was held last night in Dharubaaruge.
Minister Saeed said that the tourism sector had expanded rapidly over the years, noting that the landscape of 1980s, were vastly different to that of the current times. However, the sector underwent changes in the 1990s, when international brands began to invest in the sector.
With the changes to the sector, international brands prioritized training staff to international levels and that this was the underlying reasons for the reputation achieved by the country today.
He stressed on the vitality of training in private companies, citing that it was vital to business success.
Minister Saeed also noted the gender equality in local companies. He said that board of directors of most Maldivian companies had women in positions of power. He added that this was a trend not seen anywhere else in the world. He also said that empowering women was a key priority of President Yameen and government had instilled various schemes to ensure as such.
