"Permission to construct 20-storey buildings will be given if project fits criteria" – Minister

Housing Minister، Dr. Mohamed Muizzu states، that permission will be granted for any party to construct 20-storey buildings if the project fits to criteria.
President Yameen Abdul Gayoom had previously stated that before the current government’s term is over، buildings with 15 to 20-storey will be constructed in order to bring solution to the growing congestion issues and lack of space in Malé city.
According to President Yameen، the land scarcity issue can only be resolved through further land reclamation projects، and thus these projects can be initiated once skyscraper buildings are enacted in Malé city. Future housing plans or construction projects of government involves construction of such said buildings.
During a press conference held at Housing Ministry today afternoon، Minister Muizzu asserts the permission to construct 20-storey buildings was given in order to facilitate the current landscape of Malé in its optimum measures.
Prime criteria for construction permit given over to a project to construct 20-storey or 60-feet building includes the land plots size to be or exceed 4000 sq feet.
In addition to this، other important factors of criteria include a foot print of the house or building to hold at 3000 sq feet with main road having at least 20 feet. However، permission will be granted if the main road has 15-feet in length as well.
Housing Ministry had assigned other important criteria points as well.
According to current construction regulations، buildings are constructed between 1 to 10-storeys while a new formula is currently at works to accommodate for 10 to 20-storey buildings.
