Police officer receives concussion on his head during former President Mohamed Nasheed’s arrest.
The confrontation broke loose during Nasheed’s arrest by Maldives Police officers. The former President was taken into police custody while he was residing at his wife’s residence، M. Yaagoothuge.
MDP supporters and JP members gathered near Yaagoothuge over receiving information of Nasheed’s apparent arrest in order to intervene. Supporters who gathered on scene tried to interrupt police proceedings، and had attempted to stop the police vehicle on which officers were transferring former President.

Amid the chaos، supporters and Police had violent confrontations in which MDP-JP supporters resorted to attacking the officers with stones. Police retaliated by firing off pepper gas cannisters to control the horde. SO Police officers were attempting to bring control into the angry mob gathered near Yaagoothuge.
The SO officer sustained injury on his forehead from a stone thrown by one of the members of the mob during the confrontation. Following the attack on the officer، “Vaguthu” reporters present at the scene confirms the officer was bleeding from his forehead.
Other officers present at the scene proceeded to relocate the injured companion to a safer zone and he was then transferred to hospital for immediate medical attention.

Police officers have made a number of arrests during the violent confrontations between the supporters’ mob and police، which includes some of the former parliament members as well.
The warrant released for Nasheed’s arrest states، that he must be brought to detention over fear of evading court hearing for the charges of terrorism made on him.
