Foreign media has reported that former President Nasheed will contest in the 2018 Presidential elections of Maldives and he is contesting to save Maldives from sinking.
“I do not think that I can visit Maldives without any risk. Yet, I am thinking of going back to Maldives after taking some risks. Will contest in the elections after that” said Nasheed.
Some medias also report that previously Nasheed was severely critical of former President Maumoon, but apparently now everything is “okay” between the two and Nasheed is trying to join forces with Maumoon now.
Even though such things said by Nasheed are reported on the media, this is not how he acted when he became the president. When he assumed office, he said Maldivians should migrate to Australia and that he plans to start a fund to finance the mass migration project. However, it is not known whether he started this fund.
Those days’ foreign media reported about how Maldives was planning to buy land in Australia. Nasheed never talked about protecting the islands back then.
A government official said that if they say something bizarre like a plan to install springs below each island so that it can be lifted, even that will make it to the international media.
