The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the renovation and upgrade of the tsunami monument area.
Work on the project commenced in February and was carried out by MTCC. The sheet piles in the area had significantly deteriorated and were subject to erosion; consequently, 75 metres of sheet piling have been renewed. In addition, repairs to the quay have been completed, and a protective fence has been installed, as the park is frequently visited by children.
Further improvements include the relocation of the tsunami monument to a different part of the site. Additional seating has been installed along the walkways, and more greenery has been introduced to enhance the area’s appeal and make it more welcoming to the public.
These efforts form part of a broader government initiative to develop community spaces and parks across the capital, Malé. At present, Sultan Park and Republic Square remain closed for renovation, while Rasfannu Beach is also undergoing redevelopment.
