Salaries of employees in the Maldives Customs Service and Maldives Correctional Service have been harmonised under this year’s budget.
The new salary structure came into effect on 1 March, with employees in both agencies receiving pay increases. The changes are guided by the National Pay Framework, developed by the National Pay Commission under the National Pay Policy Act. Part of the government’s pay harmonisation policy, it aims to standardise salaries across sectors.
In 2025, similar salary increases were granted to civil service and judicial sector employees under the same policy. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had previously announced that other government employees who have not yet received adjustments will be included this year.
According to the Finance Ministry, the pay structure is designed to replace an overtime-based income and encourage more efficient use of working hours. Expected benefits include improved work-life balance, better overall employee income, and support for a healthier society.
