Dubai company to develop USD 600 million resort in Maldives

Dubai-based SAMANA Developers has launched a USD 600 million (MVR 9.3 billion) resort development project in Maldives.
The resort, which is being developed in HA. Medhafushi will have 190 villas, including beach villas, water villas and poolside apartments.
The resort is a 45-minute seaplane ride away and Velana International Airport, and just about five minutes away from Hoarafushi Airport, and is scheduled to be completed in 2029.
The resort will be equipped with a spa and wellness centre as well as restaurants specialising in Arabic and Japanese cuisine. Other amenities include a fitness centre and facilities for additional entertainment activities.
The island's development will also focus on sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.
SAMANA Developers' CEO Imran Farooq said building a luxury resort in a country like Maldives with Dubai's experience is an important opportunity for the company to expand its business.
While a new resort is being developed in the Haa Alifu atoll, there are currently three operational resorts in the Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu region.
Maldives in total has 172 operations resorts, out of which 56 are in the Malé region. Other areas with significant resort numbers include Alifu Dhaalu, Baa and Raa atolls. There are 17 resorts in each of these atolls.
