Burials at Hulhumale’ Cemetery has been temporarily halted due to floods.
In a post on X on Sunday, Male’ City Council stated that the groundwater level at the cemetery is currently between eight to nine inches amid an ongoing bad weather spell in Male' area, preventing the digging of graves and the placement of coffins due to floods.
Burials at Hulhumale’ Cemetery has previously been halted during bad weather conditions for the same reasons.
As such, the Council announced that the funeral of the deceased scheduled at Hulhumale’ Cemetery after Magrib prayer today, will instead be held at Male’ Aasahara Mosque.
All burials in Male’ area had been moved to Hulhumale’ Cemetry when Mahchangolhi Cemetery, commonly known as Aasahara, closed for redevelopment in May last year.
The cemetery reopened after major redevelopment in October of last year. Subsequently, funerals have resumed at the location.
