President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has visited the site of the tragic diving incident in Felidheatholhu involving a group of Italian nationals to personally assess the progress of the ongoing search and rescue operations.
During the visit, relevant authorities stationed at the site provided the President with a comprehensive briefing on the search and rescue efforts underway to locate the missing individuals. President Dr Muizzu assured the MNDF Coast Guard’s dive team and relevant authorities involved in the large-scale operation of the Administration’s full cooperation. He also pledged that the Government would make all necessary arrangements to support the ongoing efforts and expressed his best wishes for the success of the mission.
The President was accompanied by the Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology, Ali Ihusaan; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Iruthisham Adam; the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen; and the Chief Government Spokesperson, Mohamed Hussain Shareef.
The incident occurred during a dive in Felidheatholhu and involved five Italian nationals. One person has been confirmed dead, while four others remain missing.
Following the tragedy, President Dr Muizzu conveyed his deepest condolences to His Excellency Sergio Mattarella, President of the Italy, and to the people of Italy during this time of profound grief.
