Criminal Court has extended the remand of the suspect arrested in connection to the Western Union heist, police said Sunday.
Police spokesperson, without giving much detail said the suspect arrested on Wednesday has been remanded for 10 days.
A group of masked men armed with knives robbed the Western Union branch in the capital Male after tying up several employees late Sunday.
Police had earlier said over MVR6 million stolen in the heist had been recovered.
A total of MVR1 million and USD321,000 had been recovered which had reportedly been dumped by the robbers to aid their getaway.
However, Western Union still has not been able to confirm the exact amount of money stolen.
Mihaaru has been unable to obtain an official comment from the money transfer outlet, but reliable sources say the robbers had been chased by some of the employees after the heist.
The robbers had reportedly dumped some of the money before getting away.
