Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer has signed an agreement with the World Bank Group to establish a country office in the Maldives. The agreement was signed by Minister Ameer on behalf of the Maldives Government and World Bank’s Vice President for the South Asia Region Hartwig Schafer.
The agreement was signed at the 2019 Annual Meeting of the World Bank Group which was held in Washington D.C. from 18 – 20th October 2019. Minister of Finance, Hon. Ibrahim Ameer headed the delegation as the Governor for the Maldives to the World Bank Group.
Minister Ameer participated in the “Reducing Ocean Plastics in South Asia” event as a speaker and highlighted the importance of ensuring that our beaches and oceans are free from plastic as we are a tourism-dependent island nation.
Furthermore, during the visit, Minister Ameer also signed the Endorsement Note to officially join the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action.
