The police have said that the murderers involved in all murders that took place last year have been found.
The police said in a video uploaded last night on YouTube regarding police work over the past year, that the murderers involved in the killing of Ungoofaaru MP Dr Afrasheem Ali, lawyer Ahmed Najeeb, Police Lance Corporal Adam Haleem and Ayyube in Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo, have been found as a result of police capabilities and expertise.
Trials are ongoing in court against some of the murder suspects, while some others have been convicted and given the death sentence.
The police said that last year, cases related to theft and snatching had increased while the amount of drugs seized had reached a record high. They said that 29 brothels had been closed down, the number of cases related to domestic violence against women and children sent for prosecution had increased, organised crime had been controlled, efforts to ensure safety for the people had increased, and patrol police had been active on the streets 24 hours, seven days a week.
The police said that as part of their efforts to reduce crime, the Public Affairs Department had been reconstituted such that the Crime Prevention Department is operated under the Public Affairs Deparment under the direct supervision of Police Commissioner Abdullah Riyaz.
