PPM’s “Habeys” Rally
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has ruled that there was no corruption involved in the major rally “Habeys” held last November, as it was organized by the government and, hence, there is no graft in the government spending on the rally or asking civil servants to take part in it.
The issue was filed at the ACC by main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), who had accused the government of spending extravagantly from state coffers and coercing state employees to attend the rally, which was held to mark the government’s third year in power.
ACC noted that Minister of Tourism Moosa Zameer had announced prior to the rally that the event was being organized by the government. Therefore, the commission concluded that there was no corruption involved as it is within the state’s authority to demand government employees to attend events organised solely by the state, and to spend on such events.
