Hollywood releases a lot of power-packed، high-octane action flicks as well enchanting fantasy and adventure tales، and its a fact.
While we are all aware of the big-budgeted، highly marketed and publicized movie events، such as Avengers: Age Of Ultron، Fast & Furious 7 or even the December slated Star Wars episode 7، there are a few decent watch movies which must be indulged by viewers. It would be، in simple terms، without being offensive to anyone، a movie sin to miss out on these gems.
So here goes a list of such 5 cinematic gems which Hollywood fans must not miss out on before they wrap up their 2015 movie-watching schedule، the list starting from fifth to first will focus some of the critically favoured movies of 2015، which are، also my personal picks too (take this as a simple generosity of myself to you readers!).
05. Maggie
80s and 90s action icon، Arnold Schwarzenegger، who is known famously for his Terminator flicks، makes a powerful entry with this movie، starring alongside a young Abigail Breslin. A strong and powerful performance by the movie’s main star-cast، Schwarzenegger and Breslin، the movie tells the story of a man who goes to find his daughter who gets infected by the Necroambulist virus، which is slowly turning her into a zombie.
Critics favoured the movie with a 51% approval rating while praising the performances of both main cast members. This would be a good movie for Schwarzenegger fans to see him play an off-the-actions role، as a simple father battling to cope with life and other ordinary Joe’s issues.
04. The Age of Adaline
Blake Lively who? Oh yes، Mr. Ryan Reynold’s wife، who became famous from her role in CW’s Gossip Girl has many big budget movies to her credit. But this is one movie where she stands out significantly.
The movie tells the story of Adaline Bowman، who remains 29 years old from her physical looks after she dies in a car accident and is (somehow) brought back to life when lightning strikes her. The movie focuses on how she deals with the new found immortality as her family and those close to her grows old while she remains without aging.
03. Pitch Perfect 2
No one had expected the first Pitch Perfect movie to do so well in Box-Office at the time of its release، but the movie did well، and it’s sequel is actually doing better.
Starring Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson، the movie shows the a capella group Barden Bella’s defending their honor by enrolling in a tournament and competing against Das Sound Machine.
With generally positive reviews of 66% approval rating from critics، the movie has gone to make big-money in US and UK box-office as well.
02. Kingsman: The Secret Service
This beautifully crafted British spy-action movie tells the story of a secret espionage agency of England operating to control and cease world terror.
Colin Firth starrer is backed with a heavy co-star cast that includes Micheal Caine، Samuel L Jackson، Mark Strong and Taron Edgerton. This smart spy flick shows the mentor-protégé relationship in its finest with powerful character development and a new kind of a terrorist in the form of a lisping villainous Jackson.
Review aggregator holds at 74% with a “Fresh” rating while، Rotten Tomatoes site consensus had read “Stylish، subversive، and above all fun، Kingsman: The Secret Service finds director Matthew Vaughn sending up the spy genre with gleeful abandon” about the movie.
01. Mad Max: Fury Road
Tom Hardy replaces the original “Mad” Max Rockatansky، Mel Gibson in this reboot، and does a brilliant job in exceeding his predecessor in regards to performance and prowess. Both Hardy and co-star Charlize Theron delivers a powerful and strong performance in this road-battle drama.
The movie shows a distant dystopian future، set in a wasteland where gasoline and water have become scarce commodities، thus making them valuable. Both Max and Imperator Furiosa (Theron) team up to flee from cult leader Immortan Joe (Keays-Byrne) and his army in an armored tanker truck، battling across the waste desert wasteland.
Due to it’s cinematographic brilliance and stunning visual effects as well as the smart storytelling has made the movie a favorite at Cannes Film Festival as well. With review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes confirming the movie “Certified Fresh” with a surprising 98% critics approval.
P.S. This movie is more of a “must watch” than a “decent watch”، but since it is lesser known to Maldivian audiences، it seemed like a considerable thing to include Mad Max: Fury Road in this list.
