A record amount of trees have been planted at the newly reclaimed land through second phase of Hulhumalé development، dubbed “Youth City.”
In an attempt to promote and create a greener “Youth City”، Fisheries Ministry in collaboration with Hulhumalé Development Corporation (HDC) had planted more than 2000 trees in the area.
The event held on World Farmers’ Day، had witnessed several key members from government attending to the “Youth City” location to take part and contribute their time for a greener city. Among the key members who attended the event include، Fisheries Minister Dr. Mohamed Shainee، some of the cabinet ministers، Commissioner of Police Hussain Waheed along with several high profile government employees as well as top members of various organizations.
In addition to this، students from Hulhumalé Rehen’dhi School، Gazi School and Lalé Youth International School had also taken part in the event، with more than 500 police officers taking part in the event as well.
While speaking at the event، Fisheries Minister Dr. Shainee stated that the immense capacity of trees planted shows the unity and its strength among the citizens.
According to Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim، every attempt will be made in securing Youth City as a “green and clean” city، adding that similar projects are scheduled in place in the future as well.
Several of Hulhumalé residents had taken part in today’s tree planting event.
