Parliament has passed the amendment of the Employment Act، which states that Ramadan allowance of MVR 3000 will only be paid to government employees.
The amendment was submitted by Member of Parliament for Gemana Fushi Constituency Jameel Usman and the amendment was approved with unanimous vote of 55 members.
With the amendment of MVR of 3000 to government employees، the bill submitted by PPM Member of Parliament for Dhuvaafaru Constituency Mohamed Ali has been approved by 60 unanimous votes.
The passed bill states that the MVR 3000 as Ramadan allowance will become compulsory to all working employees after one year and allowances to expatriate employees will be non-compulsory.
While submitting the bill to the Parliament، MP Mohamed Ali said that since all Muslims، no matter how rich or poor they are، fast the same way in Ramadan، they should receive the same allowance as well. He said that the Ramadan allowance should be the same for all، and that the bill was submitted to end the cultural discrimination as well.
After the bill gets ratified، all the government employees will get Ramadan bonus equally; MVR 3000.
