Former President Mohamed Nasheed’s legal team has filed an appeal to the Supreme Court yesterday, on the Criminal Court verdict of the 13 year sentence on charges of terrorism.
Speaking to press after filing the case in Supreme Court, Lawyer Hisaaan Hussain said that the case was not related to the one filed by PG in Supreme Court, involving Nasheed.
“The case we filed today was regarding the Criminal Court sentence on Nasheed,” she said.
Hisaan said that the legal team did not believe that Supreme Court had already accepted the case, a claim that has been made by the Foreign Ministry.
“We hope the Supreme Court will accept our appeal and hold the trials. Nasheed hopes to find a solution for the appeal at the soonest from the legal system,” Hisaan said.
Hisaan further said that nations believed that the ruling and issued on Nasheed and his incarceration was an unjust one. She stressed it was paramount that justice was ensured.
