President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) Gianni Infantino have discussed developing football in the Maldives.
The discussions took place during a meeting between the President and Infantino on Friday evening as part of the latter’s ongoing official visit to the President.

During the meeting, President Muizzu warmly welcomed Infantino to the Maldives and expressed his sincere appreciation for taking the time to visit the country.
The President reiterated his administration’s firm commitment to advancing football in the Maldives, emphasizing that it remains the country’s most popular sport and a key source of national unity. He highlighted the ongoing infrastructure projects aimed at improving sports facilities across the islands this year and next. The President also reaffirmed his full support for the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) and its leadership in promoting the sport throughout the nation.

Infantino recognized the difficulties Maldivian football has encountered in recent years but expressed his satisfaction with the progress achieved so far. He praised the initiatives of the new FAM leadership and assured FIFA’s ongoing support. He further highlighted the importance of developing young talent, noting that such efforts would allow the Maldives to gain global recognition — not only for its natural beauty but also for its accomplishments in football.
The meeting concluded with both the President and Infantino reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening football in the Maldives, supporting the growth of the FAM, and exploring future avenues for collaboration.
