North Galolhu MP Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu) has written to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu seeking clarification on whether recipients of land under the previous administration’s Binnveriyaa scheme can transfer or sell land they already own in Male'.
In his letter, the MP noted that the handover of plots allocated under the scheme in Hulhumale', Gulhifalhu and Giraavaru has been delayed, with deadlines repeatedly exceeded. He said the delays have caused growing concern among Binnveriyaa recipients.
Kudu also referenced remarks made by President Muizzu during the presidential campaign and requested updates on several issues related to the scheme. The questions raised in the letter include:
Whether individuals who received land in Hulhumale' or other locations under the Binnveriyaa scheme are permitted to transfer or sell land they currently hold in Male'
Whether, and under what conditions, a Binnveriyaa recipient should be released from land registered to them in Male'
Whether a person in the scheme can give or sell their Male' land to another party

The MP further asked the President to clarify his position on a pledge made on September 18, 2023, in which he said the requirement to vacate land registered to individuals with 600 square feet or less would be removed.
Under the Binnveriyaa scheme, land was allocated from Hulhumale' Phase II, Gulhifalhu and the Giraavaru lagoon during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
President Muizzu said late last month that dredging of the Giraavaru lagoon and Hulhumale' Phase III would be completed within the next three months.
Although dredging has been completed in parts of Gulhifalhu and Hulhumale' Phase II, basic services such as water, electricity and sewerage have not yet been established, and roads remain unbuilt. As a result, Binnveriyaa recipients have been unable to begin construction on their allocated plots.
