President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that Ramadan can serve as a guide to bring about positive changes in society. He made the statement in his address to the Maldivian people on the occasion of the Holy Month of Ramadan 1447.
In his address, the President sent congratulations and best wishes to the people and the wider Islamic Ummah for Ramadan. He described Ramadan as a month of piety, avoidance of sins, and steadfastness on the right path.
The President emphasised the importance of obeying religious obligations, customs, rules, laws, and regulations. He said establishing a society that prays five times daily, protects children, and respects elders are vital. He described an ideal society that is drug-free, avoids unhealthy habits, and fully upholds Islamic principles and Maldivian cultural values.
The President further advocated for a strong Islamic culture and civilisation. He added that he wishes for Maldivians to always receive compliments from other nations, and are dignified and respected.
Describing Ramadan as a spiritual guide that can help the Maldivian society to adopt the best of characters, he said the Holy month teaches Muslims to prioritise their religion and structure their lives and schedule activities around worship. He also highlighted that social and family gatherings such as iftar and suhur strengthen community relationships, compassion, and love during Ramadan.
